History of Karachi
Sindhi, Balochi and Makrani tribes founded this city and it was named as "Kolachi" after the name of a fisher woman Mai Kolachi. Initially it was a village of fishers. In 1720s this village was trading across the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf region. Soon after this sailors and fishermen of this village a fort for the protection of the population. This fort had 2 gates; Kharadar and Methdar.
In 1839 East India Company captured the fort. In 1840 Karachi became capital of Sindh. After independence of Pakistan in 1947, Karachi became capital of Pakistan.
Geography of Karachi
Karachi covers an area of 3527 sq. km and have about 15 million population.
Karachi is located in the south of Pakistan, on the coast of the Arabian Sea. Most of the land consisted largely of flat or rolling plains, with hills on the western and Manora Island and the Oyster Rocks.
Its geographic coordinates are 24°51′ N 67°02′ E.
Economy of Karachi
Karachi is the industrial and financial hub of Pakistan. Karachi is the largest economy of Pakistan. Karachi collects a about 53% of the total collections of the Federal Board of Revenue.
There are many big industrial units of Steel, Textile, Automobiles and Pharmaceutical in Karachi. While Cottage Industry of Karachi is also a big and strong industry in Pakistan.
There are many large industrial zones in Karachi such as Karachi Export Processing Zone, SITE, Korangi, Northern Bypass Industrial Zone, Bin Qasim and North Karachi Industrial Estates.
Government Administration in Karachi
In 1853 Municipal Committee was formed and in 1933 Municipal Corporation was formed. In 1996 metropolitan was divided in 5 districts each with a municipal corporation. In 2001 city district government of Karachi was created and all 5 districts were merged in it. Again in 2011, City District Government of Karachi has been demerged and Karachi Division was formed which has following five districts:

2. Karachi West
3. Karachi Central
4. Karachi South
5. District Malir.
City Nazim is the administrative of Karachi City.
There are also six military cantonments in Karachi which are administered by the Pak Army.
